THE family of blind Neville Tyldesley who fell into the Rochdale Canal after being sent to the wrong address from hospital (Blind pensioner rescued from canal) is aghast at his treatment and is demanding answers.
The taxi driver was given the wrong address, and not knowing where is was, and also suffering dementia, the 80 years old stumbled into the waterway, wearing a pyjama top, but was quickly rescued by a jogger.
Demanding answers
The family is demanding answers to why he was taken to the wrong address and left to wander about, with his daughter, Beverley Stringer, telling the Manchester Evening News that her father was in a shocking state when he was eventually taken home:
"He was shivering so much in shock that he could not even sit down, and if it had not been for the jogger he could have died. It doesn't bear thinking about. We want a lot of answers."
'Patients safety is utmost priority'
A spokesman for Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has apologised and expressed sincere regret, with the statement: Our patients' safety is our utmost priority and Mr Tyldesley was assessed by a member of our team before his discharge. We have launched a full investigation into how this decision was reached.
