IT WAS A BOATER IN NARROWBOATWORLD who pointed out that the trust was not giving notice of stoppage at Keadby Rail Draw Bridge on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal.

So now we have notice of stoppages, Keith Gudgin reports!
But alas, not an actual notice, but just being told 'the structures restriction point remains at 16C internal temperature where operations will stop. We ask boat users to attempt to travel between the following hours and have provided the forecast below of our confidence for moving within those hours'.
But the forecast is for the 28th, 29th, 30th and 31st of July, quoting either red or amber—that have obviously now gone and so rather useless!
Keadby Lock
It is not only the bridge that is a problem when it gets too hot, but Keadby Lock too that is giving problems.
This is due to staff sickness that means the lock is now only open on certain dates for passage on and off the tidal Trent.
Our being told that from now until the 23rd August there will only be four days when passage will be available through the lock.
These will be on Sunday 2nd August, Friday 14th August, Saturday 22nd August and Sunday 23rd August
What with the high temperatures closing the bridge and the lock only open for four days this month, it looks as boat passage through Keadby will be somewhat tricky.
But what all those volunteers we so often hear about? Why not a couple of volunteers working the lock—its simple enough with the tide table.
