THE CONDITION OF AYNHO LOCK on the Oxford Canal means its repair will take until October.
At present closed
It is at present closed due to drought conditions, and whilst this is in place Canal & River Trust will be completely a 2027 stoppage to change both top and bottom lock gates together with stop plank groves.
Works at Aynho Lock 33 are not expected to commence until the the week commencing 17th August, with lack of water likely still subjecting the canal to closure. [Photograph by Jules Farndon.]
Replacement of the top gates is expected to be completed during the week commencing 31st August, at which the team will review progress on site, alongside prevailing water levels and weather conditions.
Work will begin
Following repositioning of the crane boat, works will begin on the bottom gates, with completion currently anticipated by 25th September, to be followed by approximately four days of demobilisation and making the site safe.
Providing conditions and okay the successful completion of the works, when a planned navigation passage window is currently expected, will be between 2nd and 4th October.
