IT COST a man whose dog fouled a canal towpath, and didn't clean it up, a total of £290.

The man and his dog were on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal towpath at Chorley when the dog fouled the towpath, but it was seen by two neighbourhood officers, who gave Ian Davis a fixed penalty notice, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Refused to pay

He refused to pay it however, but later pleaded guilty by letter to allowing the dog to foul and failing to pay a fixed penalty notice.

The court heard that the man's terrier was about 10 yards behind when it fouled the towpath, though he stated he hadn't seen the dog foul.

Ian Davies was fined £75 and ordered to pay £200 costs plus a £15 victim surcharge.
