THOUGH THE LLANGOLLEN CANAL suffered a major breach, it did not prevent hundreds of people attending the Whitchurch Canal Festival.

And many boats too, Janet Friend reports.

This was held last Saturday and Sunday and was its 25th festival that was well attended despite the problems of the breach that occurred before Christmas last year.

The canal festival included live music, historic and trading boats, and many activities and stalls with all manner of items.

Breach had an impact

It was told that the breach has had a massive impact on the tourism of the canal, with not so many boats but it brought a lot more people in to come and see what's going on

Repair work at the site is ongoing, and is expected to be finished by February, with the cost to Canal and River Trust estimated at about £10m.
