Art sheep found in canal

THE long lost art sheep—Ewe Are Here—pushed into the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Skipton last September, has resurfaced in the waterway.

The art sheep, painted with a map of the town was thought to have been slung into the canal by drunks at a stag party, and though a long search was carried out, even using canoes, it was never found.

But then, during the thaw, Ian Clarke, owner of Pennine Cruisers, saw a strange object in the water, it being clear after the freeze, and realised it was the missing sheep, and was later able to get it with a boat hook and drag it onto the boat.

All rounded up

Quite a few 'sheep' were created by the council, with a spokesman telling that they have all now been rounded up, to be entered into an auction later in the year.

The idea of Flock to Skipton, to promote the town, was a success, it having received a great deal of publicity with the sheep, bringing  extra visitors to the area.

The sheep will now be cleaned up and repaired, where necessary, in preparation for the auction, and in the meantime some will  make an appearance at this year's Sheep Day, taking place in July.
