New boats for Olympics

COLECRAFT Engineering have been commissioned by Water Chariots to build the new fleet of water buses to transport people to the Olympics.

These wide beam steel boats will ferry visitors from parking sites on the south side of the Thames, we are told then up the Lee Navigation and 'right into the heart of the Olympic venue'.

Vetus Ltd have also been commissioned to provide 'around 30 passenger boats' with the engines and most of the ancillary equipment for the boats. The engines are the VH4.80 engine developing 80 hp, and also providing  bow thrusters, tanks, hydraulic steering and many other components.

The boats will be equipped to carry all types of passengers, and after their service next summer, it is anticipated that they will be converted for leisure use or other commercial applications.

However, the police have confirmed that no boats will be allowed in the vicinity of the Olympics throughout both games and their build-ups.
