NOT A VERY GOOD FRIDAY INDEED with four stoppages.
Due to repairs, Keith Gudgin reports.
Weaver Navigation
Once again March Lock on he Weaver is closed.
This time due to a fault affecting the drive shaft and bearings which are connected to the mechanism that assists with the operation of both lock gates.
Yet we are told that 'Navigation Closure Completed'—but it certainly is not.
Caldon Canal
The access to and from Froghall Basin is at present not possible.
This is due to the poor condition of the Froghall Basin Lock Gates requiring a navigation closure to carry out replacement of the top and bottom gates.
Huddersfield Narrow Canal
Navigation through Lock 24W is closed on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal due to the deteriorated condition of the footbridge crossing over the lock.
This is rotten and is no longer safe for boaters to use to access and operate the lock ground paddles.
Huddersfield Broad Canal
There is broken mechanism and a balance beam has dropped on Colne Bridge Lock 2, closing the navigation.
The repair demands the use of a work boat that is not yet available, but it is hoped to be within a few days.
