WITH THE FUTURE IN MIND nine jetties are at present being constructed on the Chesterfield Canal.
Not yet connected
These are on the Chesterfield side of the waterway that is not yet connected with the system.
But for the future, the nine 25 metre jetties will help in making the reconstructed Staveley Basin a boost for businesses at the new waterside development, as well as a visitor destination.
This follows £800,000 from the East Midlands Combined County Authority supported by Chesterfield Borough Council and Staveley Town Deal Board. Image credit Derbyshire County Council.
Staveley Town Deal provided £3.5m of the £4.5m cost of the project, with the balance being met by the county council.
Lifted into place
The nine jetties are being lifted into place and will be equipped with mooring facilities, electricity hook-up and water supply for the moored boats.
The jetties were built off-site ready for installation, which is expected to take around six weeks.
