A LEAK HAS BEEN DISCOVERED on the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal.

This has closed the navigation, Keith Gudgin reports.

The leak, we are told is caused by a bed valve failure, which has resulted in a small leak within the canal bed.

This is between bridges 47 and 55, that has closed the canal.

However, contractors have carried out temporary repair works that will keep the navigation open until a permanent repair is carried out during the winter maintenance programme.

Leeds & Liverpool Canal

Again it is a failed swing bridge that has closed the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, Bar Lane Swing Bridge 197. (Pictured.)

It is closed to navigation due to a mechanical issue.

It is the key mechanism that has failed so the bridge cannot be operated.

Engineers are attending today, Friday, and hoped the bridge will reopen later. At present it is open to road traffic but closed to navigation.
