THERE HAS BEEN a new record made for the number of stoppages during one month.

63 stoppages
During the month of August there were 63 stoppages recorded, by far a new record.
Though these included most of the stoppages caused by lack of water, no few were breakages that needed repairs.
Such was the impact of the many stoppages that many boaters told us they were giving up as cruising for it was no longer a pleasure but an effort to find somewhere to cruise, such were the closed navigations.
50 stoppages
It was during this month that Canal & River Trust told that there were 50 stoppages and 59 restrictions at that particular time, that must certainly have helped boaters in their choice of giving up.
With plenty of rain and more forecasted, at least the water shortage will be solved, opening more navigations, but there are still plenty of repairs, with some taking months that do not give boaters much confidence.
