IT WOULD SEEM THAT Shirley Drawbridge is getting regular stoppages.

For it is closed yet again, Keith Gudgin reports.

And again it is the barriers of Shirley Drawbridge 8 that have been damaged by a vehicle, and again it is the trust that has to pay.

Vehicle strikes

This year is was closed on the 24th April, 1st June, 6th June and 27th July. And nearly all through vehicle strikes.

It was on the 28th August 2025 that we once again told that cameras could get vehicle registration numbers, they clicking on should a barrier be struck, and then the trust would not have to pay.

This time we are told contractors have been advised and will attend to make repairs.

LATEST—Engineers have attended this morning (Friday). But no replacement parts that have to be sourced. So the bridge will remain closed to navigation until these are fitted.
