THERE IS ANOTHER BROKEN BALANCE BEAM on a lock closing the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal.

Boggs Lock 34 at Penkridge, Keith Gudgin reports.

So it is currently not operable by boaters.

It is one of the beams on the top gates, with the paddles now being locked-off, and engineers due to attend to asses the damage to asses the repairs needed and then develop a repair plan.

Others broken

During August there was a broken beam on Lock 100 on the 2nd closing the Kennet & Avon Canal, then on the 24th a broken beam on Winkwell Lock 61 closing the Grand Union Canal.

There has been a method introduced of fastening strips of metal to lock beams to extent their lives, (as pictured) but no information has to how long, depending of course on use, as shown above.
