Contrasting events at museum

Published: Monday, 06 June 2011

TWO very different events will be taking place at the National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port in June—attracting very different types of audiences.

On Friday 17th June a Summer Serenade concert will be filling the Island Warehouse with classic choral sounds and Sunday 19th will see a Teddy Bears' Picnic fill the museum with very different sounds.

Choral music

The concert will be given by the Wirral Singers and the Wirral Ringers and will feature choral music and a handbell performance. The groups already perform a popular Christmas concert at the museum and the money raised will be donated to the museum's Heritage Boatyard project.

Tickets cost £6 and are available from the Museum. The concert begins at 7.30pm.

Teddy bears

The Teddy Bears Picnic event is a day of fun for younger visitors to the museum—who are encouraged to bring a bear with them. Children's entertainers will be at the museum from 12pm to 3pm, and they will lead storytime, crafts, colouring competitions and other fun activities as well as a teddy bear trail around the museum and the exhibits.
Museum Marketing Manager Oliver Briscoe tells us:

"We've had a very busy 2011 so far and these two new events will help keep the momentum up. The Wirral Singers put on a great show for us at Christmas and we're looking forwards to seeing what they have in store for us at this concert.

"The Museum can be a magical place for our younger visitors and so we're hoping that many toddlers - and their families - will visit us on Sunday June 19 to take part in the fun and games. It should be a proper family day out with things for all ages to find interesting."
