Another reprieve for Mr Asbo

THE aggressive swan on the Cam in Cambridge has gained another reprieve, so is still in residence.

Regular readers may remember that Mr Asbo, as the swan came to be called, was taking over the river that is part of his territory in the city, attacking all who dared come near.

Had to go

Rowers were his favourite opponents, with many being attacked over the two years of his reign, and such were the complaints that the Cam Conservators decided he had to go.

However this raised an outcry from locals, and the plan to move him had to be postponed.  But again come the complaints and again comes the attempt to have him removed—and again come the complaints of those wanting him to stay!

Posponed

So at the moment it is stalemate, and the attempt to have Mr Asbo taken from the river this month has been postponed.

Conservator, Dr Geoff Brighty, believes the swan should be removed for the safety of the rowing community, with a manager of a punting hire company remarking:

"We have to consider the swan's well being, but I do not see we can leave the situation to go on another year."

An application to Her Majesty's Warden of the Swans must be made initially and if the Queen does not want to claim ownership of Mr Asbo then responsibility passes to Natural England.
