WITH ALL PREVIOUS METHODS FAILING to get Keadby Lock reopened, another method will be used this coming Friday.

keadby2This is to employ specialist divers to attempt to 'investigate the obstruction', Keith Gudgin reports.

Closed since January

The lock that connects the tidal Trent with the Stainforth & Keadby Canal has been closed since the end of January when it was discovered that there were two problems preventing the operation of the lock.

There is an obstruction of the downstream gates that is preventing them closing and being able to create a seal.

It is this problem that the divers will investigate, and perhaps discover a solution.

Also a leaking culvert

There is also an old unused culvert leaking water into the lock, that is causing a problem and will require the lock to be dewatered before anything can be done to stop the leak.

The picture shows us entering the lock when it was 'third time lucky' when we alone decided the best time to arrive at the lock, when the tide was on the turn, and as can be seen, the river perfectly still!
