THE REPAIR TO THE DETERIORATED Rhodesfield Top lock, on the Ripon Canal is being brought forward.
It's state is such that it will not last until its scheduled next winter works, Keith Gudgin reports.
The lock has deteriorated so much that instead of being repaired in next winters' works, its repair is being brought forward to March this year.
Both lock gates
It is told repairs are required to both the lock gates and cill at Rhodesfield Lock 1 due to timber decay that is affecting the structural condition of the gates. To ensure safety a full navigation closure will be in place for the duration of the works. Image: www.penninewaterways.co.uk
It is told this stoppage is essential to maintain the continued reliability and safe operation of the lock.
The repairs are scheduled to begin on Monday 23rd March and take the week until Friday 27th March.
