Rescues from waterways

THE WEST YORKSHIRE FIRE SERVICE has dealt with numerous casualties in the navigations.

In one instance a man walking his dog fell into the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, Janet Friend reports.

Between narrowboat and wall

He was trapped as he fell into the water between a narrowboat and a wall in Leeds, then rescued by the fire service using a sled and then assessed by the paramedics in attendance, then taken to hospital.

Fire crews were called to rescue two deer from the Aire & Calder, with a specialist officer and a water rescue team mobilised to the incident.

But despite their best efforts the deer did not survive the ordeal.

Unable to get out

West Yorkshire Fire service were called to reports of two males in the Aire & Calder, with them rescued by the fire service personnel as they were unable to get out.

Back in Leeds and a report of a woman in the canal, and again unable to get out of the Aire & Calder, with a full water rescue in attendance, but the woman had been rescued by a member of the public. She received first aid before being placed in the care of ambulance crews.
