IT SEEMS that common sense may prevail and put the brakes on Canal & River Trust taking out unsafe legal actions against boaters.
Such actions are costing the Trust a great deal of money as narrowboatworld has reported, with two it lost costing £16,500 and £38,000 respectively, both obviously unsafe actions.
Guidelines
But now the Charity Commission is to issue guidelines on what charity trustees need to take into account when considering taking legal proceedings, Martin Cox tells us.
It its newsletter it reports:
'Legal proceedings can present significant risk to a charity and this guidance will provide advice on what trustees need to know when thinking about taking or defending legal action, and when we need to be involved'
Perhaps it will discipline the Trust into not taking what many boaters believe are 'revenge' actions against those that dare stand up against its obviously frivolous and costly actions.
