Doing their job

There seems to be a lot of criticism of enforcement officers for doing their job and trying to enforce the rules, writes David Hargreaves.

I am sure they will attract much flack from the people who are on the receiving end. But surely you need a firm approach in order to enforce.

Friendly atmosphere

The other end of the spectrum can be seen at a place on the Grand Union (I am making a general point rather than the specific instance to which I refer as I don't want to get individuals into trouble) where we have moored in the past and which had a vibrant, busy and friendly atmosphere.

On our latest mooring during the summer there were a few boats that were just overstayers and noise all through the night, indeed it was intimidating. We talked to the local enforcement officer the following day who was very friendly and said that there were some problems but he knew the problem boaters quite well.

So there may be two types of enforcement officer. One that doesn't make any friends and one that does.

Take your pick which type of officer you want.
