Vikings for Moira Festival

THE annual Moira Canal Festival will see battles staged by the Vikings of Middle England this being the star attraction at this year's event.

Being staged since 2000, the festival this year is to be held on the restored stretch of the Ashby Canal at Moira Furnace over the weekend of 21st and 22nd of May.

Ongoing restoration

The purpose of course is to raise funds for the ongoing restoration of the canal, the most recent stretch of which was reopened near Snarestone last year.

There will be the usual entertainment in addition to the Vikings, who will be reenacting their battles and capturing the canal bridge, and demonstrating their way of life in the living history camp.

Boats

In addition to the boats there will be music, live steam, craft and trade stalls, morris dancing, fire eating, escapology and  childrens' entertainment.

The ultimate aim of the trust is to restore the six miles section through Measham.
