Severn boats stolen

AN EMERGENCY boat belonging to the emergency services Severn Unit Maritime Volunteer Service has been stolen and another damaged.

This occurred when thieves broke into the  service's new box trailer taking the unit's nearly new grey Seago 270 inflatable, together with pumps, boat hooks and other equipment, after the lock was forced.

The thieves attempted to steal a large Gemini inflatable, but it proved too heavy so they ripped it and abandoned it some way from the trailer.

Head of the unit, Nick Price, explained:

"We use the trailer to promote the unit at festivals and shows and also to store our equipment and we were very upset indeed to discover that thieves had broken into it. Most of the contents were strewn all over the ground."

River rescue

The main purpose of the boats is for river rescue on the Severn and in the event of flood.
The Severn Unit Maritime Volunteer Service is a charity and so relies solely on public support.

The stolen items include three blue and white 'Cruise Savers' life jackets, a black fuel can containing about three to four litres of diesel and a grey and blue Seago 270 inflatable dinghy.
