THERE IS THE REAL POSSIBILITY of a major water bus service on the Trent serving Nottingham.
With discussions taking place, Janet Friend reports.
Planing for years
City and county leaders have been planning this for years of how it could be operated on the river, with a 'double decker' water bus that would hold many passengers.
Rushcliffe Borough Council leader Neil Clarke tells it was open to conversations and proposals for public transport on the water:
“One of the challenges that we have is traffic, and one of the possible solutions to that is using the river. Think big, a water bus with a park-and-ride service to take some of the traffic away."
Suggestions are that the water bus would operate between the existing Queens Drive Park & Ride site at Clifton Bridge and the Colwick Racecourse Park & Ride site, about three and a half miles east down the river.
Already a service
A service is already in operation for people to park their cars and get on a ferry at Colwick, that travels along the Trent and is run by Princess River Cruises.
But before it could become a reality, a great deal of research and planning would be needed.
