THERE ARE TWO REPAIRS, that having been inspected, will take longer than first expected.

MayroydLockThese are on the Rochdale and Kennet & Avon canals, Keith Gudgin reports.

The problem on the Rochdale Canal is that repairs are needed to the Mayroyd Lock (8) gates. The lock is pictured.

But after having been dewatered the problem on the Hebden Bridge lock was found to be worse that anticipated.

So now it needs a specialist contractor, which means that to ensure the repairs are completed safely and to the required standard, this stoppage will now remain in place until Friday (of course) the 27th February.

Kennet & Avon Canal

An inspection has been made to Burghfield Lock (103) on the Kennet & Avon Canal it and discovered that the gate is severely damaged below the waterline.

This means the repair is not straightforward and is likely to require dewatering of the lock to make a more detailed inspection.

The trust's engineering and construction teams are currently assessing the repair options, but this time no date is given for the completion of the repair.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal

The failure of the offside head gate paddle on Lock 14 West on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal should be a fairly quick repair, as a local team have inspected the failure.

So its method of repair should known, hence the navigation soon back in use.
