THIS TIME IT IS the Stourbridge Canal that is blocked by a sunken narrowboat.

It sinking in Lock 3 on the waterway near Leys Junction, Keith Gudgin reports.

There is no information why the boat sank, but usually it is caused by it being too far back in the lock when descending, then its stern gets hung on the cill, and down it goes.

No intimation

There is no intimation when the boat will be removed.

We have often called for better notices telling to always descend with the boat's bow on the forward lock gate as otherwise it could sink, but told this could give the impression that locks are not safe.

Which of course they aren't!
