Week spent securing the site at Macclesfield leak/breach No.3

WE LEARN THAT this week was spent securing the site of the leak/breach No. 3 at Bollington on the Macclesfield Canal.

With three such stoppages on the waterway, it is difficult knowing which is which, and even the trust is apologising for a mix-up in notices!  Keith Gudgin reports.

One at Bollington

This is the one at Bollington that occurred at the end of May, between bridges 26 and 27, that as the others, was first reported as being a 'leak'.

However, as mentioned, teams have been busy setting up a secure site to begin essential repair works. Dams have been installed and the fish rescued—earlier than expected.

After the inspection we are told 'a site investigation identified three leak paths on the offside and one on the towpath of the canal bed'.

Grout mixture

These are to be filled by injection of a grout mixture into the voids that were discovered in both the canal bed and wash walls. If this goes well the navigation will be open there on Friday (of course) 20th June.

It seems it was a 'leak' after all.
