City Cruises adds another stop
THOUGH many taxi services started on rivers and canals have failed, City Cruises York Riverbus is an exception.
This has gone one better and operates regular services on the Ouse in York, Janet Friend reports.
Regular stop
It has now added another regular stop to its services, now calling at Riverfront in Bishopthorpe from April.
It was way back in 1977 that the service first started, adding various stops as it grew, now operating a fleet comprising seven passenger boats and 14 self drive boats, with the business stating that it transports a total of 221,000 people annually with its wide offering.
Owned by locals Phil and Kerrie Cook, (pictured) they underwent a full takeover in December 2023. The new stop is near the caravan site operating on selected dates until September, locals and visitors will be able to hop on and sail to and from the city.
The Riverbus offers a traffic-free journey to and from the city centre, and the sights you pass along the way make the journey even more enjoyable, one of the owners, Kerrie Cook tells, adding:
Enable more people
“We hope that the partnership will enable more people to visit us at The Riverfront, and equally add an extra dimension to stays for those that are holidaying with us during the summer.”
The Riverbus works as both a sightseeing tour and a transportation service, so guests travelling to and from York will have access to all the sightseeing cruises facilities, that include a heated saloon, drinks and snacks from the on-board bar, with toilets provided.
