THERE ARE A NUMBER OF CANALS that have reopened.

They now having sufficient water, Keith Gudgin reports.

Trent & Mersey Canal

The water level of the pounds between Lock 41 and Lock 71 on the Trent & Mersey Canal have been raised sufficiently to allow navigation.

Repairs to the leak at Lock 69 will now be carried out during the winter works programme.

Staffs & Worcs Canal

Enough water has been run through the pounds of Lock 6 and Lock 9 to allow navigation.

However, skippers of deep drafted boats are advised to stay in the centre channel of the canal and proceed with caution.

Chesterfield Canal

Water levels in the pound between Lock 61 and Lock 62 have improved to allow navigation.

However this is only for boats with a draft of 2ft 6ins or less.  Those above are advised to wait until the level is fully recovered.

Rochdale Canal

The pounds between Lock 5 and Lock 8 on the Rochdale Canal have recovered enough to allow navigation.

The trust is asking boaters to take care and make sure to operate locks correctly, close paddles and share if at all possible.
