Social media tip-offs alerted police to stolen boat
IT WAS tip-offs from social media users that alerted Warwickshire Police to the whereabouts of the stolen narrowboat.
The police told that it was the power of Facebook that helped them track it down, Roger Fox reports.
As Roger told us, the boat was originally moored at the bottom of the Grand Union Cape Bottom Lock with the Cape Pub shown in the background.
Onto the Severn
As thieves took it down onto the Severn and into Gloucester Lock, the staff from the National Waterways Museum in Gloucester—who had read about the theft and noticed the latest sighting—took to the towpath along the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal, and discovered it moored.
The boat was taken at some point between the 8th and 13th November with people actually tracking it as it cruised the various waterways and so informing the police.
As the boat was moored during its journey it was repainted roughly in white from its original red and black in an obvious attempt to disguise it.
Won't attempt to visit
When the police caught up with the narrowboat, there was no one inside, and it is not expected the thieves will attempt to visit it now!
