A NEW bridge for walkers and cyclists has been designed to span the Regent's Canal by St Pancras Lock.

This new 38 metres long bridge has no intermediate supports other than at each end, and has just gone in for planning permission, Roger Fox tells us.

Steel plate

The bridge forms a connection for pedestrians and cyclists to the West and Camden, and the single span is steel plate that is only 15mm thick, and is thought to blend in with better with neighbouring architecture than would either a cable or suspension bridge.

It is understood that if permission is granted the bridge could be completed within six months
