THE narrowboat that sank on the Soar above Ratcliffe Lock has been a danger to navigation for nine days, being just two feet under the surface.
Though this was reported to Canal & River Trust and the police on Monday 21st December, all that has occurred is two orange buoys have been placed in the river, but no intimation how boats should pass, Robert Silvinski tells us, and as his photograph shows.
Poor marking
Robert suggests that the poor marking means that if you make the wrong choice where to navigate you could damage your boat, it being such a short distance under water, or fall into the river after an abrupt stop.
The safe thing to do would be to close the river to navigation until the boat is removed. Which brings reference to CaRT's declaration that is has now passed such work to River & Canal Rescue (RCR now to raise sunken boats) and that this takes just 24 hours!
As no one has yet reported a missing boat, either it is sunk with perhaps its crew still aboard or it could be the one stolen from a nearby marina.
