Woman in canal to escape knife attacker

IT WOULD seem that these days people walking the towpaths have to be very much alert, as the latest is a man with a knife threatening towpath walkers, with one woman jumping into the canal to escape.

The 30 years old woman had no alternative but to jump into the Kennet & Avon Canal near Reading to escape from a stranger who came at her brandishing a knife, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Threatened to kill her

She was on the towpath by Fobney Lock, when a man approached her and threatened to kill her with a knife unless she came with him, at which she jumped into the waterway to escape him.  It was no night-time attack but in the middle of the afternoon, when it is expected to be safe.

The man ran away when the woman jumped into the canal, but she managed to climb out and inform the police, who are warning other women of the danger of walking alone on the towpath whilst he is at large.
