Police chase car into canal

A CAR driver attempting to escape the police took to the towpath of the Lee at Waltham Cross, but ended up in the waterway.

The driver had failed to stop for the police and that resulted in a high speed chase, with the driver taking to the towpath in an attempt to escape, but the car plunged down the bank into the waterway, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Arrested

A 21 years old driver managed to escape, but the other two teenage occupants had to be helped out by the police, who then arrested them on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. They were released on bail pending investigations.

The driver was eventually caught and he was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and being in possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.

A male teenager had an head injury whilst a female passenger was unhurt.
