Samshiba—an appeal

Published: Monday, 10 June 2013

THE narrowboat Samshiba was stolen from Willow Moorings on the Soar sometime between late Sunday night 5th May and the early hours of Monday morning 6th May—the Spring Bank Holiday weekend (Stolen boat found) writes Pam Pickett.

It was locked through Cromwell lock at 2.32 on Wednesday 8th May. [Under the licenced name of Dazed and Confused.] It was seen to be speeding at Saxilby. Two men were as at Cromwell lock on board at Torksey. At this time according to the lockie at Torksey the boat had not been modified and the windows were still in.

Not seen

Having gone through the Trent locks I cannot believe others did not see this boat, or have suspicions raised by hearing it moving in the dark, yet Steve Cropper, CaRT Enforcement Officer for the Midlands, most unusually, he says didn't receive a single call.

What we now need to know is if anyone saw anything unusual/suspicious on the Sunday of the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, or indeed in the early hours of either the Sunday or Monday mornings?

Two cruisers

It is known that two cruisers were seen to be heading downstream in the dark on the Soar between 10.30/11.00pm on the Sunday night. Those aboard those cruisers may hold information and it would be appreciated if they could come forward and either email to: This email address is being protected from spambots. The owner of Samshiba has, it seems, now to prove not that he owned the boat and that he still does. This a 45K boat still worth over 20K even in its current stripped state, yet incredibly said to have been 'sold' to a woman for she and her daughters to live on for 7K.

This boat could have belonged to any one of us. Please help the owner, if you can, by coming forward with any information you may have to enable the thieves to be caught.
