Canal festival for Alrewas
THOUGH boating is going through a hard time at present, this is not stopping a new canal festival, to be held at Alrewas on the Trent & Mersey Canal.
It's going to be boats, beer, music and cheer, with over 20 acts appearing together with real ale and of course boats, Alan Tilbury tells us.
Centenary year
To be held later this month, at the week-end of the 22nd to 24th July, people banded together to mark Alrewas Village Hall's centenary year, and decided to stage the first Alrewas Canal and Music Festival, primarily to raise money for the village hall building fund, and to of course raise awareness of the canal that runs through the village.
The event will be held between Alrewas Lock and the weir, with Essington Park Ltd giving permission for the use of the land and erecting a fence to keep the cattle away from the festivities.
Bands
Bands will be staged on the three evenings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons, agreeing to play without charge. There will also be instruction in canoeing and angling for the youngsters, and even a ukulele group demonstration and workshop on Sunday.
Other activities include a craft market, stalls and a duck race.
