Anglers upset by BW fish removal

ANGLERS in the Black Country are upset by British Waterways for netting stocks of fish from a canal to stock a reservoir.

British Waterways netted the fish from the Titford Canal at Oldbury, leaving it depleted of stock, transporting the fish 70 miles to Toddbrook Reservoir at Whaley Bridge, that is a feeder for the Peak Forest Canal, where anglers are charged to fish.

Fish stunned

Local fishermen saw British Waterways personal using equipment to stun the fish, then collect them with nets and take them away.

Angler Fred Rich tells us:

"British Waterways has sent us an email explaining that they can make money by charging people to fish there. Apparently they have a licence to remove 9,000lb of fish."

A spokesman for British Waterways admits that though carp have been left in the canal, other species have been removed.
