THE STONEWORK THAT FELL into the Calder & Hebble Navigation has been removed.

Reopened

And the navigation reopened, Keith Gudgin reports.

It was on the 11th June that stonework fell from Cooper Bridge Viaduct 22 on the  Calder & Hebble Navigation, it falling into both the navigation and towpath, and closing both.

The reason the river navigation was closed was there was so much debris from the parapet of the viaduct that boats would strike it and suffer damage.

Safety concerns

Also there were safety concerns of more stonework falling, that caused the towpath to be closed as well as the navigation for safety reasons.

Network Rail have completed the repairs and the removal of the stonework from the river. so the navigation has been reopened for passage.
