BATH AND NORTH EAST SOMERSET COUNCIL have served notice on illegal moorers on the Avon in Bath.
This is below Pulteney Weir, Kelvin Alexander-Duggan has discovered:
Owners of illegal moored boats who have been moored on land belonging to the Bath and North East Somerset Council below V shaped Pulteney Weir on the River Avon in Bath, have been ordered to move.
These illegal moorings were fenced off by the Council on safety grounds, some years ago with no access to the water other than climbing over the fence. The River Avon has a long history of flooding in the winter months after heavy rain.
The squatters have been ordered to leave by the end of September 2026 by the Council. They have not paid a penny in council tax or mooring fees. They claim that the river bank is not unsafe and that they are being forced out because their vessels look 'scruffy'.
Like all squatters they want to live in the centre of City near the bright lights and not pay a penny. The council is acting on the advice of their insurance company. It is expect that court action will be required to move some of them.
