THE BIRMINGHAM & WARWICK JUNCTION CANAL is to be closed for a month.

In the middle of the season, Keith Gudgin reports.

But this time it is no fault of Canal & River Trust, but is making way for the new HS2 high speed railway.

The work demands that the Saltley Viaduct—a large public road bridge that crosses the Birmingham and Warwick Junction Canal—be demolished.

The effect of this work will mean that navigation is closed  between Roving Bridge 97 and the M6 Viaduct at Salford Junction.

This will take place from the 14th July at  8am to the 17th August at 5pm when both the navigation and towpath will be closed.

The work is to demolish the Saltley Viaduct—a large public road bridge that crosses the Birmingham and Warwick Junction Canal.

There is an alternative  route available whilst these works are taking place via the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal using Aston Locks. Artist's impression by New Civil Engineer
