TWO CANAL CLOSURES HAVE HAD their works completed and are now reopened.

The Kennet & Avon Canal was closed last September, Keith Gudgin reports.

But elevated water levels on the river section meant that work could not be undertaken.

It required the replacements of lock gates, but this could only be undertaken when the water levels were normal and expected to remain so.

The work has been completed and the navigation reopened.

Stourbridge Canal

The Stourbridge Canal was closed on the 3rd March due to pollution that closed the canal to stop it being further spread, it covering Stourton Top Lock to Wordsley Junction.

The trust's local area operations team, the Environment Agency and Severn Trent all working to find a solution. That obviously must have been found as the canal is now open.

The water contained high Ammonia levels that required oxygen being pumped into the water to safeguard the fish.
