A £100,000 project aimed at enhancing Fradley Pool and developing interactive installations explaining it's natural and historical significance is set to be unveiled on Wednesday 7th April.

Throughout the project, input has been encouraged from a broad range of participants including schools, the local community, conservation groups and local authorities and the launch will enable them to see the completed site and get their hands on the resources that they helped to create.

The enhancements to the site include:

  • Audio tours about the site
  • Interpretive way marking and panels
  • Involvement of volunteers and local schools in the creation of interpretive seating
  • Interpretive maps of the site explaining its history, including local walks and cycle routes
  • Swell maps of the site for those with sensory impairments
  • Interpretation panels at pond-dipping sites of common pond life found at the reserve
  • Audio resources in the bird hide playing sounds of common birds that visit the pool
  • Guided costumed walks about Fradley Junction's history and wildlife
  • Reminiscence Days encouraging people to share memories, stories, and old photographs of Fradley Junction.
  • Educational resource boxes

British Waterways Project Manager Lucie Hoelmer enthused:

"This has been a fantastic project involving a really diverse group of people and we're looking forward to seeing them enjoy the new resources. Fradley Junction is already a popular site, rich in history and wildlife, but these installations will ensure that visitors have more information available to them and can enjoy a more entertaining and informative day out."
