EA boaters believe 9% increase is too much
THE Environment Agency has admitted that though a large majority of customers did not support it, the proposal to increase boat registration fees by 9% will go ahead.
The agency told that it was in a difficult position, considering how inflation had pushed up costs such as of materials and repairs.
But as shown by the response to the consultation, the majority of its boaters feel that the 9% increase is too much.
Does not warrant 9% increase
The boaters believe the increased delays in summer repairs and then winter maintenance works, together with lack of access between the Great Ouse, Middle Levels and Nene owing to delayed work, with no passage on the Nene until 1st June this year and the Denver crossing closed until 10th June and Brandon Lock still closed does not warrant a 9% increase.
Like Canal & River Trust the Environment Agency has lost many of its more skilled and experienced staff who had in-depth knowledge and understanding of the waterways.
But the Environment Agency tells that the rise in registration fees will be used to improve the experience of users.
