'Excessive build-up of silt' closes section of canal

A SECTION of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal was closed yesterday, Friday, due to 'an excessive build-up of silt'.

BruthwaithSBThis section includes the Brunthwaite Swing Bridge that is also closed for operation, Keith Gudgin reports.

Boaters are advised by Canal & River Trust not to attempt passage otherwise they risk being grounded, such is the amount of silt in the waterway.

The silt is around the swing bridge, near Silsden.

Lancaster Canal

Glasson Flight on the Lancaster Canal is now open after a successful repair to the lock gate at Lock 6.

The lock was 'out of position' and closed the flight on Monday 1st July, but was repaired yesterday, Friday.
