Water taxi service on Kennet & Avon Canal

BOATER Richard Froud, has introduced a water taxi service on the Kennet & Avon Canal.

This running between Bath Top Lock and Semington, with his reconstructed boat taking up to 12 passengers, reports Janet Friend, with photograph.

He tells that his water taxi offers a trip between Bradford on Avon and Bath taking two and a half hours, but is also offering shorter one  hour trips.

Shorter trips

He has also arranged a one hour return trip from Bradford on Avon to the Cross Guns at Avoncliff and back, and other such shorter trips.

He is charging £10 for one hour trips and £15 for the two and a half hour trips, per person, and even an all day cruise at £35 with customers able to chose where to go.

But alas, is it legal?  Does his boat insurance cover for passengers, does he have a trading licence from Canal & River Trust or does his reconstructed boat meet with boat safety rules or is it safe..?
