Was it a 'blown' cill?

IT WAS on Thursday of last week we were informed that Lock 73 on the Rochdale Canal was closed.

The reason for the stoppage being a 'blown' cill, Keith Gudgin reported.

Taking weeks to repair

A 'blown' cill means it has collapsed so needs everything draining and then contractors taking weeks to repair, but on Saturday—just two days later—Canal & River Trust inform us that 'the teams have completed repairs to the damaged cill today and navigation is now back open.

Something rather strange about this, but certainly better for boaters!
