Work to start on canal cutting

WORK on a section of the Bridgwater & Taunton Canal and its towpath is finally due to start  in August.

BTBeamsThe Albert Street Cutting was closed three years ago due to safety concerns after two large wooden beams collapsed, Trevor Mapstone reports.

The repair is the responsibility of the Canal & River Trust, with Bridgwater Town Council to start work on the cutting to make it safe.

Should start in August

Ben Carroll, Principal Project Manager for the Trust told the council that it had completed the review and had chosen a contractor and that work should start in August, but a firm date will be given.

The work of making the beam safe is expected to take around six weeks to complete, with the council hoping it will be completed in October.
