Boats still grounding on the Leicester Section

Published: Saturday, 30 October 2021

THE build-up of silt on the Leicester Section of the Grand Union has again blocked navigation.

This time the navigation is blocked between Freemans Meadow (41) and Aylestone Mill Bridge (108D) in Leicester, Keith Gudgin reports.

Third area of grounding

This is the third area of grounding reported over the past few months, and the stuck boat is completely blocking the navigation.

River Canal Rescue are expected to remove the boat fairly quickly—always providing its own boat doesn't get stuck!

There is no intimation of any dredging to be carried out in the pound.

LATEST:

The grounded boat has now been removed by Canal River Rescue with the trust stating other boaters will be able to travel along this section as normal.
