Hope for repairing breach on Kennet & Avon

Published: Saturday, 30 October 2021

THERE is hope for a repair to the breach on the Kennet & Avon Canal, be it only temporary.

The canal breached on Monday between locks 102 and 103 at Reading, with equipment being brought on to the site in the hope of undertaking a temporary repair, Keith Gudgin reports.

Get back to moorings

This will allow the stranded boats at either side of the breach to get back to their winter moorings.

The plan is to back-fill the breach with clay using a boat mounted excavator, that should then restore the water levels and allow navigation.

However contractors are involved that means work will not begin until the end of next week.
