BOATERS wishing to get to the tunnel of the restored section of the Chesterfield Canal will be unlucky.

For Turnerwood Top Lock (36) heel post has snapped-off making the gate unworkable, Keith Gudgin reports.

TurnerwoodTopAssessment carried out

An assessment by the engineers has been carried out of the work needed to replace the heel post, which it has been decided will take place as part of the winter maintenance.

This means that the work is not scheduled to commence until the 8th of November, with no information as to when it will be completed.

The Turnerwood Flight is three miles from the blocked tunnel at the current eastern end of the Chesterfield Canal.
