Fallen tree stumps CaRT's 'teams and contractors'

A FALLEN tree in the Ashton Canal at Guide Bridge has stumped those attempting to remove it.

Canal & River Trust admit 'our teams, along with contractors, have explored various ways to be able to access and remove the large windblown tree at Bridge 26' without success, Keith  Gudgin reports.

Working with local authority

The trust is now working with the local authority who need to attend site and assess the situation as it seems the only way to get the tree out is by a crane, but this will cause a road to be closed.

The tree has closed both the navigation and towpath.

A decision could be made tomorrow, Friday as to the method of removal of the tree.
